Multi-Cable Transit System

Multi-Cable Transit System

Components of a SIC Multi-Cable Transit System

The cables pass through a frame which has been properly welded on a bulkhead or embedded on a wall or ceiling. Frames are supplied in standard sizes according to a modular system.

The empty spaces in between the inside of the frame and the cables are filled with insert blocks made from elastic material resistant to fire. Cables and insert blocks are placed in rows inside the frame according to their diameter. On this way, using spare blocks if necessary, the whole set is sealed.

In between each row of blocks it is advisable to insert an anchoring plate. This will keep the blocks in position and help the distribution of the pressure through the frame. Insert blocks are compressed by a press plate which assures the necessary tightness. The resulting empty space is filled with an end closure, also made of elastic material, which will complete the system.

SIC Multi-Cable Transit System Certifications

The SIC multi-cable transit systems are certified for naval applications No. 07043180 EC.
The SIC multi-cable transit systems (REF 120) are certified for other applications No. 07/32304347.

The insert blocks are developed according to a modular system that permits all types of combinations between cables.

Spare Blocks

Wide range of modular spare blocks for filling empty spaces.

Spare Blocks

End Closure

Once all the blocks are in place and the system has been compressed by the action of the pressure blot of the press plate, an end closure is installed in order to fill any empty spaces between the press plate and the frame. There are different types of end closures depending on the type of frame used and how this frame is installed.

PEC1

To be used with PLC1 and PLC2 press plates on those cases where the frame can be accessed by both sides.

PEC2

To be used with PLC1 and PLC2 press plates on those cases where the frame can be accessed only by one side.

PEC60 y PEC120

To be used without PLC press plates. It is closed by the pressure of the front end bolts.

PEC-R: PEC-50R, PEC-70R, PEC-100R, PEC-150R y PEC-200R

For use on cylindrical recesses or with PBR frames. It supports the blocks as well as the final closure element.

Press Plates

PLC1

Their mission is to transmit the pressure made by the pressure bolt to the insert blocks. Their interior is made of brass, steel or aluminium and the outside part is made of a special rubber with very high resistance to fire.

PLC2

These plates fulfil the same mission as the PLC1, but the pressure bolt is already incorporated on the plate. They are used on frames without pressure bolt.

Anchoring Plates

These components are to be used in between each row of insert blocks. They serve two missions:

  • To maintain the insert blocks on the proper position.
  • To distribute and compensate the pressure exerted over the insert blocks.

They are manufactured in steel, aluminum or stainless steel in two measures PLR1 and PLR2, for frames of 120 and 60mm wide, respectively.

How to install a Multi-Cable Transit System

1

The cables are drawn through the open frame. Because of the relatively large space of the frame cable pulling and is easy and there is no risk of damaging the cables
Classify the cables according to the order they will follow in the multi-cable transit system. Be careful that the cables do not cross over each other near the multi-cable transit.

Try to avoid significant changes of direction of the cables near the proximity of the multi-cable transit system.

2

Start packing the cables with the largest diameters first, according to the diagram previously drawn.

It is advisable to sort out the cables and tie those to be packed in the upper part of the frame.
In order to make the installation easier you can apply a light coating as lubricant to the inside surface of the frame and to the outside of the insert blocks.

3

An anchoring plate is inserted in between every complete row of insert blocks.
This will keep the blocks in the proper position and help distribute the pressure throughout the frame.

4

Before packing the last row of insert blocks, the press plate is inserted and pressed against the top end of the frame.

When the last row is packed, the compression bolt is tightened against the press plate (in case that the frame has a compression bolt).

5

Insert the end closure. Tighten the two bolts of the end closure until the frame is sealed completely.
Once this is done, the compression bolt is then backed off about 1/8 turn.
The installation of the SIC multi-cable transit is finished.
